Welcome to Detailed Margins!

Detailed Margins is a company that was developed by a teacher for teachers (and readers)!

The copies of the books that you receive from here arrive with teacher notes already ready to go. The notes include the following:

  • Vocabulary students might struggle with boxed and defined in the margins

  • Significant passages related to theme(s) or character development are highlighted/flagged on top of page

  • Profanity that appears is color coded by word (flag key included at front/back of book)

  • Figurative language underlined and identified

As teachers, we know that it can be difficult to be fully prepared to teach a novel for the first time. Sometimes we are thrown into situations that leave us with little to no time to prepare for teaching a novel. This has happened to me numerous times, which is where the inspiration for this company came from.

Meet the Owner

Kayla Gerkin

Kayla has been teaching English Literature at the secondary education level since 2014. Over the course of these years, she has developed a wealth of knowledge regarding how books should be taught within a public school classroom, and she understands many of the issues teachers face when teaching literature to students.

Outside of teaching, she loves gardening, taking care of her chickens, puppies, and her fish. She is a member of multiple book clubs and loves settings that allow each other to share their insights into various texts and a love of reading.
